Your Rights Under The TCPA

What is the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and how does it help consumers? The TCPA was passed in 1991 and provides regulations for telemarketers and telephone solicitors.

Under the Act, telemarketers and solicitors are required to state their name, the name of person or business they are calling for, and the phone number or address of that person or business.

The TCPA also has prohibits telemarketers or solicitors from:

  • Calling consumers before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m.
  • Calling consumers using automatic dialing devices
  • Using a fake voice or recording
  • Making unauthorized calls to your cellphone
  • Calling numbers listed on the do-not-call registry
